THE FLOWER’S LESSON
Author unknown
In a garden bright, by a bubbling brook,
Lived a lovely rose-tree, just take a look!
With two little buds, all cozy and sweet,
And a grand, blooming rose, oh, what a treat!
When the sun went down and the sky turned to gold,
The little buds nestled, feeling quite bold.
As stars twinkled brightly, keeping watch from above,
They whispered sweet secrets, all filled with love.
“O sister,” said one, gazing up at the night,
“I wish for a star, to shine ever bright!
The Dew Elves, they come with their drops of cool dew,
But they fade away quickly, like morning mist, too!
A star would be lovely, it would sparkle and gleam,
Making me queenly, just like in a dream!
I want to be beautiful, with a star shining near,
Far more than those dew-drops that seem so unclear!”
But the wise rose-mother, with a gentle sigh,
Said, “My dear little bud, please don’t be so shy.
You’re perfect just as you are, you must see,
What matters is a kind heart, and being truly free.
Those dew-drops are gifts from the sky above,
They’ll make you more lovely, they come with great love.
The stars belong to the heavens so high,
While fireflies are not jewels; let them flutter by.”
But the proud little bud, she wouldn’t give in,
And held onto her firefly, with a determined grin.
Yet the little bug struggled and tore at the seam
Of her lovely petals, what a sad little dream!
When dawn’s light broke in, she felt a great sorrow,
Her sister bloomed bright, while her petals felt hollow.
“Oh, what have I done?” the little bud cried,
As she stood by her sister, feeling so dried.
The warm sun shone bright, the flowers sang sweet,
But the little bud longed for the cool dew to eat.
With tears of regret, she sighed by her side,
Wishing she’d listened to her mother with pride.
Then the rose-mother whispered, “Dear child, can’t you see?
Joy comes from within, and from humility.
The sunshine and raindrops are gifts from the sky,
To help you grow strong, and learn how to fly.
So be thankful for all the love you receive,
And let go of the pride, it’s easier to believe.
Be lovely outside, but kind within,
And that is the secret to true happiness and win!
As autumn arrives, and your petals grow dim,
You’ll bloom in the home of the Flower Spirits’ hymn.”
With a gentle sigh, the dew-drops fell near,
Filling the little bud with happiness and cheer.
She grew strong and bright, with her sister in view,
Learning to cherish the gifts that were true.
When night came again, the fireflies twinkled,
But the bud just drank dew, her heart now sprinkled.
With stars shining down from the sky so wide,
She glowed with contentment, full of joy inside!
